Hi everyone, I have read on (English side) all of the newbie section and most of the trip report section I have also read some of the rest of the English board. My mongering experience only consists of Costa Rica I have logged in seven trips in the last two years. I am comfortable with the seen there and I will be going again in two weeks. I am really getting interested in Peru but the seen there so far looks to be much larger and a lot more complicated then San Jose. It looks like I have a lot of work a head of me to have enuff knowledge to have a great safe first trip.
I have loved mongering since my divorce but I also like to explore the country and experience the Culture and the cuisine. I What has me so interested so far is in Peru you can do both at the same time. In Costa Rica, (out side of San Jose)you have one option the beach and it is not even a nice beach. You can always take some chica with but then you could have problems and it will get expensive. You also will have to deal with the tree huger Gringas talking about you everywhere you go.
New I am interested in reading all I can on Trujillo and Cusco areas.
I know there is a lot of information in the Spanish side of the board however, my Spanish sucks. I have registered for Spanish one at my local collage however, that is going to take some time.
I have read that you can get a translation program to help you.
How do they work? Do they translate the web site or do you have to cut and paste the information you want translated? What are some of the programs that you guys use?
Thanks for your help and I am looking forward to reading the Spanish side.

RT here. Welcome to the board.
I'm biased, but I love mongering in Peru. Hell, I love everything about the country, so I may sound biased.
One warning for people who have only mongered in San Jose: There is no 'there' there. What I am saying is that if you're used to the Del Rey/SL type of camaraderie, you will need to re-adjust your settings. Unless you bring someone with you, or line up a travel buddy in advance, you will be mongering alone. Me -- I prefer it that way, but I know that's not for everyone.
If you take basic safety care (don't stumble around drunk, take taxis at night), you will probably be safer than walking around San Jose. The 'great' part will be what you make of it, and you're doing your research -- post with any specific questions.

You are correct. If you get out of Lima, there's a zillion cool things to see and do. I'm a city boy, so I mostly stay put, but last trip, I got to get some guy to drive me around the Amazon River. How cool is that?

I use freetranslation.com -- it's easy. You can both cut and paste and do full pages. It only does a poor-to-OK job. There are so many terms that translate incorrectly in context, but are correct word-wise. But it helps me get the gist of the posts.
If you only use the Spanish side for location/times/services information, you will have a ton of info at your hands, so you'll be OK.

Have fun on your trip. Post your dates in the [Solo usuarios registrados pueden ver
este link] section -- you might find a running buddy.
Also, this information is not free -- you need to post some of your experiences (hopefully good ones) for the next guy to learn from. Not just the girls, but anything that might be an issue to a traveler -- the 'culture and the cuisine, as it were -- will help.
Have fun!

Welcome CTG and gald to see you here. On translation if you access this forum through google it has a translation option. It is not great but helps. I have a systran CD for translation I got from a friend if I can find it that I can send you a copy of which is good and easy to use. Even I can do it being a computer idiot. You are correct Lima is very big and a bit hard to navigate at first. For first trip Miraflores is your best option. Something I have done is print directions for places I want to go from the Spainish forum in Spainish for taxi drivers.
You are right unlike Costa Rica, Peru has pfp all over the country but that is mostly covered in the Spainsh Forum. There is also limited info in ISG forum. Cusco is a great place to go but no mongering there for me as my trip was a girlfreind trip.
Trulijjo is place I really want to go. The US winter season may be the best weather there I would guess but yet to visit. Homo_Lo_Gato one of our monitors here has posted some info for the area and considers it a great place to hobby. Again if I was a bit better on line I would post a link. Tons of info on Trulijjo on the Spainsh site also.
Also the civilain scene is one of the best anywhere but easy to get wrapped up in that and limit mongering which is where I am at now. Basicly hard to play on both sides of the fence. Good luck.rbc100
