Aqui/Aca????

Hello. RT here.

As far as I can tell, both aqui and aca mean the same thing: here.

But there has to be some difference, or why have two words?

Can someone please help me out? Thanks.

The difference is minimum, but if we compare:

Acá: It's used for something imprecise, abstract:

"ven para acá"

Aqui: it's used to refer to something concrete, precise:

"ponlo aquí"

I think that you can translate those words this way:

Acá : Here

Aquí : Right here

That should account for a 95% precision in the choice of words. I use that rule when I speak in english.

Likewise, alli/alla means right there/there.
