Hello. RT here.

Anyone who has bought a plane ticket lately knows that prices have gotten absurdly high. A Lima flight from Miami that -- for years -- ran anywhere from US$350 to about $500 are now pricing out in the neighborhood of $800-$1,000. And that's from Miami!

Since I like visiting Lima, I spend a lot of time searching the various travel sites for cheaper fares.

Thursday, I was looking on kayak (kayak.com) and -- right in the middle of all the expensive flights -- it had a MIA-LIM itinerary for August for $464. I thought it was too good to be true, but I clicked through to Orbitz and booked it. The return flight has a long layover in Ecuador, but for $500, I can wait a few hours.

So I am good for August, but I think I got lucky there.

Where do you look for flights, and what have you found lately? Unless gas prices come down a lot, this is going to be an important issue.

I purchase my tickets at Travelocity.com and yes I've noticed that prices for Jun-August are very high. Compared to Travelocity, Kayak seem to have higher prices. Hopefully prices will go down for the fall season.

A friend just bought a ticket to travel in July for just over $800 from CheapOair.com.

I really hope that gas prices go down this summer, I'm used to paying around $500 for my ticket. I'd rather spend those $300 in chicas.

Don't know if it'll be much help, but here goes. I have personally reserved my flights through orbitz, but nothing worth mentioning in the form of savings. Came across an article a while back and they mentioned 2 other useful sites other than kayak than may be of some use. itasoftware.com, airfarewatchdog.com.

With itasoftware, I just did a quick search and did find a cheap flight, but not to Peru, that I couldn't find on the major sites. It appears that you will find savings, but I don't think you can purchase through the website and instead they will direct you as to where you can. Worth a shot I figured.

With airfarewatchdog.com, I have used in the past and it's been hit or miss. I think the 0nly noticeable difference would be that you would have to fly out of Ft. Lauderdale, rather than Miami. I would have low expectations when looking, but you never know if you'll stumble on a lucky find.

Good luck.

RT here. Kayak wins again!

I was searching for November dates, and all of the consolidators and airline sites themselves were all in the $800-$1,100 range.

Kayak had a Taca combination for $504.31 (all taxes included). Yes, I have to change planes twice going home, but for around a $400 savings, what the hell! When I went to Taca's web site, they didn't even offer the 2-stop option; their cheapest flight was $937 for the same dates, and $811 if I altered my dates a little.

I haven't any idea why this is happening, but it is. I am booked and ticketed.

I checked for prices this morning and got a pleasant surprise! I found a flight at CheapOair.com for $542! All taxes/fees included. Lately prices were beyond $800 to travel from my hometown to Lima. The flight (American/Lan combo) has one stop in Miami.

I quickly checked to compare with other sites and got the following prices:

Kayak: $864
Priceline: $525 (lower price, but longer wait between flights)
Travelocity: $734

CheapOair.com saved me about $300! The countdown for my next Lima trip has begun.

RT here. What do I do while I watch the playoffs? Shop for flights.

I just purchased a round trip flight on American Airlines (non-stop from Miami) for 16-26 August for $369.64, including all taxes.

Flights on LAN were $461. Other airlines were the regular $600-$1000 that they always are. Copa wanted $1,100 for that itinerary, and $800 for one a couple of days different.

Here's my reservation. It says it is on hold, but I have since purchased it.

I can't imagine that my days were extra special. When you find a great fare, jump on it!

Travelocity and CheapOair were having the best rates for early May.

Those $900+ prices were scary so I was glad to find a RT ticket with American Airlines for $544, including taxes. The best rates are offered if flying Tue-Th.

When it comes to cheap- there is no match for spirit air.
Upon your request I seen there is some good offering for
about $700. The catch is that it departs out for fort lauderdale
Spaces are running out.. so check them out

If you can find one of their $9.00 specials - Spirit isn't bad ...

BUT - Be Warned - They will get you with bag fees ! !

I usually try to stick with Avianca / Taca - still free bags, some food, and liquor (even in Coach) !
